Holistic and Sports Massage

Based in Plumpton Green, East Sussex
A little bit about me...
After
completing a BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography I spent 15 years working
in the NHS performing X-rays, CT
scans, MRI scans and
mammograms.
This
professional experience has given me extremely in-depth knowledge
of
anatomy and physiology.
I
understand the body and enjoy working with people.
Massage
is not just about the techniques you use but having the knowledge to apply
those techniques to the exact
area that needs treatment.
It’s
less about pressure and more about specificity.
Each
treatment is bespoke to your
needs drawing from all of the disciplines I
practise.
No
two treatments are the same.
Advice
on aftercare and home
stretching routines given.

TREATMENTssss ROOM
Holistic Massage
This
style looks at the body as a whole and aims to provide overall benefit
to both the
muscular and nervous systems. Treatments are more
relaxing and have a more
flowing nature to the massage strokes.
This can include both Swedish massage
techniques and Deep tissue
massage. Clients will usually undress but keep
their
knickers/underpants/boxers on and be covered neck to feet by
blankets. Only the
area of the body being treated is uncovered at
each time. Oil is used on the client’s
skin.
Swedish
massage uses long, flowing strokes and rhythmic tapping (known
as
Tapotement) to calm the nervous system, promote circulation,
reduce stress and aid
sleep.
Deep
Tissue massage aims to target the deeper muscles and release muscle
tension.
The strokes are slow and firm. Specific areas may require
pressure to targeted areas
to break down muscular knots or
adhesions. Great for addressing postural issues eg.
Desk workers
and for those with chronic muscular pain eg Fibromyalgia.

Sports Massage
Sports
massage is not only of benefit to sports people. This style aims to
remedy
specific muscular issues. The massage strokes are performed
in a more dynamic way
and there is more communication between
client and therapist as you may be
required to move into various
positions to allow me to target specific muscles. This will
include
stretches to muscles also. Due to the dynamic nature of this style
clients will
wear shorts to enable leg stretches to be performed
whilst maintaining your modesty.
You may need to lie on your back,
front and side during the treatment. Oil, lotion or
wax will be
used on the client’s skin depending on the level of grip required by
the
Therapist. The techniques used will vary for Pre-event,
Maintenance or Post-event
treatments.

Hot Stone Massage
This
treatment involves using heated Basalt stones, held in the Therapist’s
hands to
massage the client’s skin. The heat allows the muscles to
relax and provides a deeply
calming experience. Oil is used on the
client’s skin. Clients will wear underwear and be
covered with
blankets as in Holistic massage.

Massage
of the face and head is deeply nurturing and induces great calm. By
using upwards
sweeping strokes and acupressure to the face we can
stimulate blood flow and plump up fine
lines. Gentle strokes under
the eyes can aid with draining away puffiness. The use of Vitamin
E
rich oil on the face nourishes the skin. Acupressure to the scalp,
forehead and
base
of skull calms tension and can help with headaches. This can be
included as part of a
30, 60 or 90min treatment.
Facial Massage
Thai tabletop
Thai
table top is a gentler version of the floor-based Thai massage. The
Therapist uses
palms to apply acupressure to SEN lines along the
body. The client is then assisted
into stretches of the legs,
calves, arms, torso. Acupressure to the head/scalp is
included. The
depth of stretch is tailored to your level of flexibility. The
Therapist may
kneel on the massage table next to you to perform
some of the stretches. Clients
remain fully clothed and no oil is
used.
This
can be performed as a stand alone treatment or incorporated into
other
treatments.

Workplace
massage is perfomed in a specially designed chair with the client
fully dressed. No
oil is used. Massage strokes are applied through
clothing to areas known to experience
fatigue associated with desk
posture e.g upper back, neck, forearms. Stretches are performed
to
address problems related to seated posture. Great for the health and
wellbeing of your
staff.

Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy
massage is suitable once you have passed the first trimester and
have
been assessed as having a low risk pregnancy. The massage is
performed with the
client lying on their side and supported by pillows
between knees, under bump etc.
This treatment is slow, relaxing and
deeply nurturing. By using side lying position the
Therapist can still
provide good pressure to the muscles that run parallel to the spine
and
into the lower back, which often get tired during pregnancy. Legs, calves,
feet are
all treated. No treatment is performed on the Baby bump and this
area is safely
avoided throughout. Halfway through the treatment I will
assist you to turn to lie on
the other side to complete the massage. Head
and face massage can be included
depending on your preference. Clients
will wear underwear/knickers and be covered
with blankets. Only the area
being worked on will be uncovered at any one time.
Further details
I
don’t have a prescriptive list of treatments that you need to choose from.
You can combine whatever styles of treatments or areas
of body that you
wish. If you wish to have a sports treatment to your legs to ease your
training soreness and muscular aches but you
wish to also have a facial
massage that is not a problem, we can divide the time up accordingly.
As
a guide to what can be covered in a given length of treatment I give the
following examples. Please bear in mind that the more
Deep work/muscular
release needed the smaller the body area that can be covered in a given
time. For relaxation purposes we can
cover more body area in less
time.
